Career Highlights

US Army Corps of Engineers logo

Michael gained a wide variety of experience with USACE, holding positions at multiple levels within the organization. His time resulted in significant exposure to government acquisition and contracting, cost engineering, negotiating, project controls, and construction project management, including time in management/supervision, and as a warranted Administrative Contracting Officer of the Corps of Engineers. His project involvement ranged from vertical military and medical construction, to building for the unique needs of the special forces community, to large scale civil works construction including the Folsom Auxiliary Dam and Spillway in Folsom, CA. Additionally, participation in the USACE Leadership Development Program promoted the refinement of his team leadership and management skill set.

Michael gained solid leadership and planning experience while participating in the United States Naval Reserve, serving as a commissioned officer with the Navy Seabees. His time as a detachment Officer in Charge with NMCB23 gave him experience in managing a large but geographically dispersed group, as he was responsible for the physical and administrative readiness of 70+ Seabees.

Michael held several positions with the general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, including Estimator and Assistant Project Manager, primarily with experience in the medical and commercial construction sectors. His time working in construction developed a good awareness of means and methods, construction processes, and construction contracts, as well as an understanding of the risks and opportunities inherent to the business of construction.

Michael is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina, and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Home Life

In his spare time, Michael enjoys building all types of home projects, fly-fishing, grilling, watching college football (Go Pack!), trips to the mountains and beach, and spending time with his wife, kids, and other extended family.
